MIL-DTL-62337C(AT)
3.2.4 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled,
recovered, or environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent
possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance
requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs (see 4.8.1).
3.3 Design and construction. The assembly shall be constructed as specified herein and
in accordance with Drawing 12325888. The assembly shall incorporate a precleaner, filter
element and a vehicle exhaust dust ejection system (VEDES) precleaner scavenging manifold
(see 4.8.1 and 6.2).
3.3.1 Filter element. The filter element shall be in accordance with MIL-PRF-62309 and
Drawing 11669740 (see 4.8.1).
3.3.2 Weight. The weight of the assembly shall not exceed 600 pounds (lb)
(272 kilogram (kg)) (see 4.8.1).
3.4 Operating requirements. Except as otherwise specified herein, requirements shall be
met under the following standard conditions:
73 + 18 degrees Fahrenheit (F) (23 + 10 degrees Celsius (C)).
a. Temperature:
b. Humidity:
50 + 15 percent (%).
0.073 pounds per cubic foot (lb/ft3) [1.17 kilogram per cubic meter
c. Density of air:
(kg/m3)] at 80F (27C).
30 + 1 in. of mercury (Hg) (101 + 3 kilopascals (kPa)).
d. Pressure:
e. Dust:
Chemical analysis of dust and particle size distribution shall be in
accordance with ISO 5011.
900 ft3/min (425 L/s).
f. Air flow:
0.025 + 0.005 gram per cubic foot (g/ft3) (0.88 + 0.18 g/m3) of
g. Dust feed rate:
actual input airflow.
Actual input airflow shall be defined as airflow plus the scavenge airflow for each of the five
10 minute stepped airflow cycles listed in table I. (NOTE: First step would have an actual input
airflow of 970 ft3/min.)
3.4.1 Initial airflow restriction. The initial airflow restriction of the assembly shall not
exceed 9 in. of water (2.24 kPa) (see 4.8.2.1)
3.4.2 Dust capacity. When operating with a stepped airflow in accordance with table I
and fed with ISO 5011 coarse dust using the prescribed dust injector as specified in ISO 5011,
the time for the assembly to reach load capacity (see 6.6.1) shall be not be less than 80 hours.
There shall be no dust tracking on the downstream side of the element. The coarse dust
accumulative efficiency shall not be less than 99.9% and the precleaner efficiency shall be not be
less than 97% (see 4.8.2.2).
